" Our preservative-containing saline is a bacteriostatic 0.9% sodium chloride injection . Each milliliter contained 9 mg of sodium chloride and 9 mg of benzyl alcohol added as a bacteriostatic preservative. The pH range was 4.5 to 7.0. Making it preserved saline for injection.

The remaining major difference between the 2 categories of saline we studied was the presence or absence of benzyl alcohol. There is substantial evidence that benzyl alcohol has anesthetic properties hence less pain on injection "
